The Nestle Young Achiever Award was presented to Sian Warriner.
NZDA President Julie Carter says Ms Warriner was presented the award for her dedication to mental health and Maori dietetics.
“Sian’s practicum investigated the need for mental health dietetic services to be established at Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB),” says Ms Carter.
“The results showed that a dietician role was necessary and Sian was later appointed to a position in the organisation. Since then, she has created a comprehensive and valued role in one of the country’s largest DHBs. For a young dietitian who is just starting out in her career this is a fantastic achievement.”
Middlemore Hospital’s leader of nutrition and dietetics Vicki Paulin says Ms Warriner has shown “exemplary commitment to the profession”.
“Sian’s experience and expertise in the area of mental health dietetics has already been recognised beyond CMDHB. As she’s the only Maori dietitian at CMDHB, she regularly gets called to provide cultural input into reviewing nutrition and education resources, client feedback forms and research proposals.” Source: Times Online
